Beach tourism
The well equipped beach of Francavilla is far only few minutes.
South of Francavilla and Ortona, it is possible to admire the charming Costa dei Trabocchi, where old wooden buildings were once used for fishing.
Mountain tourism
Close to the Majella National Park, during summer you can have nice walks in the blooming nature, and during winter you can practice sports like skiing and cross-country skiing.
Almost 100 km from Francavilla you cannot miss a visit to the Abruzzo National Park where, among beech forests and high rock grasslands, there are animals like the Marsicano bears, suedes, wolves, deer, roe-deer and eagles.
Nature tourism
Many Regional Reserves are not less important. The closest ones are: Springs of Pescara River in Popoli, Penne Lake, Sagittario River gorges in Anversa degli Abruzzi, Dannunziana Pinewood in Pescara, Punta Aderci in Vasto and Lavino River sulphurous Springs in Scafa.
Cultural tourism
Abruzzo, boasting a single location between the Adriatic coast and the highest Appennini Mountains, is rich in history and tradition.
In Chieti, whose origins can be traced back to Greek Age, it is suggested to visit the National Antiques Museum, where the Guerriero di Capestrano is kept; La Civitella Museum, on the old Necropolis, is an archaeological complex with the Roman amphitheater and Italic temples; San Giustino Cathedral, storing the Saint’s Remains. Not to be missed the annual Chietinstrada International Buskers Festival on 14, 15th and 16th August.
Guardiagrele, the main Majella National Park centre, boasts the old tradition of wrought iron and copper craft; shops are open all year to see and buy them; every year, in the period 1st – 20th August, the Market Exhibition of Abruzzo Crafts is held.
Pescara, hometown of the writer Gabriele D’Annunzio and commercial city, is recommended for shopping and entertainment.
Religious tourism
Majella, called “domus Christi” by Francesco Petrarca, is full of places of worship like Santa Maria d’Arabona and Volto Santo in Manoppello, San Clemente Abbey in Castiglione a Casauria, San Liberatore a Majella in Serramonacesca, San Bartolomeo and Santo Spirito Hermitages in Roccamorice.
An Eucharistic miracle of 700 is preserved in Lanciano.
Sport tourism
Horses can be requested directly at Lo Scacciapensieri.
Only a 5 minutes drive to reach the Miglianico Golf Course with 18 holes.
On the second Sunday of August every year the “Miglianico Tour” foot race takes place.
